Writing a Play

Writing a Play
Writing a Play (A & C Black, 1988, 1995, 2001, 2004, was commissioned a few years into Steve’s successful class at The City Literary Institute in London. He went on to run the class at Goldsmiths College, University of London, where he also instigated the MA in Playwriting.
At least four of his students went on to be produced professionally, two winning prizes, and one commissioned by the National Theatre. He also ran writers’ workshops at the Half Moon, Greenwich and Croydon Warehouse, worked as a Literary Manager and as a co-founder of the Theatre Writers Union negotiated national agreements for playwrights with West End, Regional and Fringe theatres. He served an unusually long term on the Arts Council’s specialist Theatre Writing Committee before it disappeared in a series of ‘efficiency’ cuts.
Meanwhile the book has run to four editions and as many languages. A few copies of the latest edition, in new format and cover, are still available in some bookshops.
